Nothing to report these last few months.  I have just been concentrating on working full time and Fabulous Gourmet has gone by the wayside.  I still love to bake and am working at a wonderful new bakery in Barrie’s north end.

Goodbye Nook!

I’m so sad to say that Nook Atmosphere in Barrie closed it’s doors last week.  The store was a haven for eco-friendly fashionistas and it will be missed.  I believe the on-line store is still active and can be accessed at www.nook-canada.com

If you are interested the all organic cookies that we made for Nook, they are still available to order direct from our website.  And of course, almost all of Fabulous Gourmet Patisserie’s treats can be made with organic ingredients for those eco-friendly foodies out there.

During my pregnancy, I was very concerned with nutrition and taking my pre-natal vitamins.  When my daughter was born, I persisted with nursing her despite the horrible pain it caused me for the first three months of her life.  When she began solid foods, we fed her organic cereal and made our own baby food from organic produce and veggies from our garden.  Now that she is approaching her first birthday, the big question is what are we going to do for her birthday cake?  Most commercial and specialty shop cakes are loaded with fat and sugar.  There is a lot of concern in the medical world about the effects of artificial food colouring on children especially relating to hyperactivity.  As a baker, I am determined to make a better cake for my baby and babies everywhere.

Fabulous Gourmet’s Story

Fabulous Gourmet Patisserie is my labour of love.  My name is Sarah Downey and ever since those glorious childhood days when I would help my Grandmother in her kitchen and sample treats in my Aunt’s bakery I have had a love of baking.  My passion and creativity has been funneled into baking for family and friends and working at some of the top bakeries in Barrie Ontario.  Crafting sumptuous pastries and cakes from scatch has become an absolute obsession.  Wedding cakes, pies, cookies, tarts, squares, special occasion cakes and decadent desserts are just some of the products I specialize in.  Fabulous Gourmet is unique because I use ingredients that are fresh and local, all my baking is trans-fat free and I have organic and vegan options (such as my organic cookies and my favourite vegan cake.)
